Aftercare

You, as the client, take an active role in how your freshly-done permanent makeup heals.  The following are aftercare instructions we recommend at Mae Belle Beauty.  If you have any questions during your healing process, please contact the studio.

The long-term results of your permanent makeup depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to sun exposure, your age, your skin type, use of retinol or other skincare products, and how well your skin reacts to and retains pigment.  Clients typically desire a touch-up every 1-3 years.

POWDER/NANO/COMBO BROWS

Day of Procedure (Day 1)

  • Thirty minutes after the procedure, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently pat the brows. Fan dry them
  • Repeat every thirty minutes for two hours
  • Brows may be leaking lymph fluid immediately after procedure, and doing this will help reduce scabbing
  • At night before bed, using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently wipe brows
  • FOR OILY SKIN TYPES: at night before bed, using clean hands, gently wash your brows with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide. Oilier skin types tend to have more build-up during the healing process, so gently washing them will help refuse the build-up and therefore reduce scabbing, helping with pigment retention

Days 2-7

  • Twice a day (morning and night), using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently wipe brows
  • FOR OILY SKIN TYPES: twice a day (morning and night), using clean hands, gently wash your brows with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide. Oilier skin types tend to have more build-up during the healing process, so gently washing them will help refuse the build-up and therefore reduce scabbing, helping with pigment retention
  • Pat them dry using a clean paper towel
  • Then, apply a small amount (rice-size) of A & D Ointment. If it appears too shiny,  you have used too much. Only use a tiny dab total for both brows

Things to Avoid

  • For the first 7 days, avoid getting brows wet in shower, sweating, going in hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and other bodies of water
  • Avoid direct sun exposure during first 1-2 weeks, and in the long-term be sure to use daily SPF on brows and wear a hat when in the sun for a long period of time
  • Scabbing might occur within the first two weeks. Avoid picking any scabs, and allow them to flake off on their own
  • Avoid wearing makeup on or around the brow area until the scabbing process is finished, typically after two weeks
  • Avoid cleansers UNLESS you have an oily skin type (please see instructions for oily skin types for day of procedure and days 2-7)

Important Notes

  • Please note that after the scabbing has healed, pigment may not be visible, and color can appear “off.”   This is normal and there is no need to worry about this.  Color will pop up over the next few weeks, and it can take up to 8 weeks to see the true color
  • Also note that this is a multi-step process. The first appointment, in some cases, is just for laying the  template. Fading and spottiness is completely normal and has no bearing on how you will heal after the  second appointment. Pigment layers with each appointment. Any additions or adjustments will be made at your second session
  • The aftercare instructions are goaled toward minimizing risk of infection and aiding in pigment retention. It is ultimately up to you to follow these instructions in order to heal your fresh PMU properly
  • Please contact the studio if you have any questions or concerns

LIP BLUSH

Day of Procedure

  • Thirty minutes after the procedure, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently pat the lips. Pat dry with a clean tissue or paper towel. Apply a fragrance-free, medication-free lip balm such as Aquaphor
  • Normal swelling occurs after treatment and should subside within 24-48 hours. To help with swelling, apply an icepack with a sterile barrier such as a clean paper towel or take ibuprofen if it is medically safe for you to do so.  Be sure to stay hydrated to help heal.   Avoid irritation from salty or spicy foods for the first week.  Use a straw while drinking for the first week (no hot beverages).

Day of Procedure Through Day 7

  • Keep your lips clean and dry of any fluid that may present itself
  • Lips will typically scab after a couple days and will be done with the scabbing process after a few days of peeling. Lips will feel super dry, so be sure to keep your lips constantly moisturized with a fragrance-free, medication-free lip balm such as Aquaphor

Things to Avoid

  • Do not touch or pick the peeling on your lips as this could lead to infection or loss of pigment.
  • Do not apply makeup to the lips for the first 2 weeks
  • Do not apply cleansers to the lips for the first week
  • No tanning or chemical treatments until your lips are healed (4-6 weeks), and no chemical treatments on the lips indefinitely
  • Avoid getting lip fillers 1 month before or 1 month after getting lip blush.
  • For the first 7 days, avoid irritation from salty or spicy foods, avoid sweating, going in hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and other bodies of water
  • No hot beverages for the first week, and be sure to use a straw while drinking

Important Notes

  • It may take around 6-8 weeks to see the final results
  • The aftercare instructions are goaled toward minimizing risk of infection and aiding in pigment retention. It is ultimately up to you to follow these instructions in order to heal your fresh PMU properly
  • Please contact the studio if you have any questions or concerns

LASH ENHANCEMENT EYELINER

Day of Procedure (Day 1)

  • Thirty minutes after the procedure, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently pat the eyelids. Fan dry them. Repeat before bed
  • Avoid touching eyes and keep contact lenses out for first 48 hours

Days 2-7

  • Twice a day (morning and night), using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently wipe eyelids
  • Pat them dry using a clean paper towel

Things to Avoid

  • Avoid soap/cleansers for the first 7 days. After 7 days you may use a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such a CeraVe or Cetaphil
  • For the first 7 days, avoid getting eyelids wet in shower, sweating, going in hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and other bodies of water
  • Scabbing might occur within the first two weeks. Avoid picking any scabs, and allow them to flake off on their own
  • Do not wear contact lenses until at least 48 hours after procedure
  • Do not use eye makeup (eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, etc.) or lash serums for the first 7 days after the procedure
  • Avoid direct sun exposure during first 1-2 weeks, and in the long-term be sure to wear UV-protection sunglasses if in the sun for a long period of time

BEAUTY MARKS & FAUX FRECKLES

Day of Procedure (Day 1)

  • Thirty minutes after the procedure, wet a clean cotton round with water and very gently wipe the freckles. Fan dry them. Repeat every thirty minutes for the next two hours
  • Do not touch the area with unclean hands
  • Do not put any lotions, skincare products, or makeup on this area
  • At night before bed, using clean hands, gently wash the faux freckle area with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide

Days 2-7

  • Twice a day (morning and night), using clean hands, gently wash the faux freckle area with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide.
  • You may shower as normal, but avoid putting your face directly in the shower steam and do not rub or scrub the area
  • The freckles may appear red due to skin irritation, which should subside within the first few days
  • The freckles/beauty marks may form scabs on them. Do not pick the scabs off.  The freckles/beauty marks will appear darker at first but will lighten as they heal
  • You may use a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion on the area but avoid makeup and skincare products

Things to Avoid

  • For the first 7 days, avoid putting your face directly in the shower stream, sweating, going in hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and other bodies of water. Do not use makeup on the area.  Do not use skincare products other than a gentle fragrance-free cleanser and fragrance-free lotion
  • Avoid tanning or chemical peels for first 4-6 weeks, and in the long term be sure to use daily SPF on them
  • Avoid retinols/retinoids on or one inch around your faux freckles indefinitely, as this can lead to premature fading
