Aftercare

You, as the client, take an active role in how your freshly-done permanent makeup heals.  The following are aftercare instructions we recommend at Mae Belle Beauty.  If you have any questions during your healing process, please contact the studio.

The long-term results of your permanent makeup depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to sun exposure, your age, your skin type, use of retinol or other skincare products, and how well your skin reacts to and retains pigment.  Clients typically desire a touch-up every 1-3 years.

POWDER/NANO/COMBO BROWS

Day of Procedure (Day 1)

  • Thirty minutes after the procedure, using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round or paper towel with water and very gently wipe the brows. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel
  • Repeat every thirty minutes for two hours
  • Brows may be leaking lymph fluid immediately after procedure, and doing this will help reduce scabbing
  • Change your pillow case to a fresh, clean pillow case
  • At night before bed, using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round or paper towel with water and very gently wipe brows. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel
  • FOR OILY SKIN TYPES: at night before bed, using clean hands, gently wash your brows with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide. Oilier skin types tend to have more build-up during the healing process, so gently washing them will help reduce the build-up and therefore reduce scabbing, helping with pigment retention

Days 2-7

  • Twice a day (morning and night), using clean hands, gently wash your brows with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide. Pat them dry using a clean paper towel
  • Then, apply a small amount (smaller than rice-size) of A & D Ointment using a Q-tip. If it appears too shiny, you have used too much. Only use a tiny dab total for both brows. Apply the ointment twice a day, after each time you wash your brows

Things to Avoid

  • For the first 7 days, you can shower as normal and wash your face & brows with the gentle fragrance-free cleanser in the shower, but avoid standing with the shower stream directly on your brows. When you get out of the shower, be sure to use a clean paper towel to pat your brow area dry. Never use a dirty towel to dry off your brows during this initial healing phase, as they are still a healing wound and this can introduce bacteria.
  • Avoid sweating & rigorous exercise, going in hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and other bodies of water.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure during first 1-2 weeks, and in the long-term be sure to use daily SPF on brows and wear a hat when in the sun for a long period of time
  • Scabbing might occur within the first two weeks. It is imperative that you avoid picking any scabs, and allow them to flake off on their own
  • Avoid wearing makeup on or around the brow area until the scabbing process is finished, typically after two weeks
  • Avoid putting any lotions on your brows until they are done with the scabbing process. Only put the A & D ointment on them during this time. You can reapply the A & D ointment in the afternoon (in addition to morning and night) if they feel dry. Keeping them moisturized with a light layer (do not apply too much, they still need to be able to breathe) will help them heal
  • Avoid tanning for the first 4-6 weeks. Avoid chemical peels on this area indefinitely. Avoid retinols/retinoids on or one inch around this area indefinitely

Important Notes

  • Please note that after the scabbing has healed, pigment may not be visible, and color can appear “off.”  This is normal and there is no need to worry about this.  Color will pop up over the next few weeks, and it can take up to 8 weeks to see the true color
  • Also note that this is a multi-step process. The first appointment, in some cases, is just for laying the template. Fading and spottiness is completely normal and has no bearing on how you will heal after the  second appointment. Pigment layers with each appointment. Any additions or adjustments will be made at your second session
  • The aftercare instructions are goaled toward minimizing risk of infection and aiding in pigment retention. It is ultimately up to you to follow these instructions in order to heal your fresh PMU properly
  • Please contact the studio if you have any questions or concerns

LIP BLUSH

Day of Procedure

  • Thirty minutes after the procedure, using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round or paper towel with water and very gently wipe the lips. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel. Then, apply a non-medicated fragrance-free lip balm such as Aquaphor Lip Repair (this can be purchased at CVS or most grocery stores)
  • Change your pillow case to a fresh, clean pillow case
  • When eating, choose foods to eat with a fork and avoid salty or spicy foods and hot liquids like soups. When drinking, use a straw and avoid hot beverages
  • Avoid kissing until done with the scabbing process (minimum of three days), as to avoid introducing bacteria and friction
  • At night after brushing your teeth, using clean hands, wet a clean cotton round or paper towel with water and very gently wipe lips. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel. Apply the Aquaphor Lip Repair (or other non-medicated fragrance-free lip balm) again
  • Normal swelling occurs after treatment and should subside within 24-48 hours. To help with swelling, apply an icepack with a sterile barrier such as a clean paper towel or take ibuprofen if it is medically safe for you to do so.  Be sure to stay hydrated to help heal

Day of Procedure Through Day 7

  • Twice a day (morning and night), using clean hands, gently wash your lips with water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Make sure the cleanser does not have any harsh skincare such as Benzoyl Peroxide. Pat them dry using a clean paper towel. Then, apply the Aquaphor Lip Repair (or other non-medicated fragrance-free lip balm)
  • Lips will begin to feel super dry and tight, so be sure to keep them moisturized constantly with the Aquaphor Lip Repair (or other non-medicated fragrance-free lip balm)
  • Lips will typically scab after a couple days and will be done with the scabbing process after a few days of peeling. Do not rub your lips to try and get any flaking/scabbing off. Just keep them moisturized and let any scabbing come off on its own
  • Avoid irritation from salty or spicy foods for the first week. Use a straw while drinking for the first week (no hot beverages)
  • Avoid kissing until done with the scabbing process (minimum of three days), as to avoid introducing bacteria and friction

Things to Avoid

  • For the first 7 days, you can shower as normal and wash your face & lips with the gentle fragrance-free cleanser in the shower, but avoid standing with the shower stream directly on your lips. When you get out of the shower, be sure to use a clean paper towel to pat your lip area dry. Never use a dirty towel to dry off your lips during this initial healing phase, as they are still a healing wound and this can introduce bacteria
  • Avoid sweating & rigorous exercise, going in hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and other bodies of water.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure during first 1-2 weeks, and in the long-term be sure to use daily SPF on lips
  • Scabbing might occur within the first week (lips typically are quick to scab and peel. It is not uncommon for this process to only take 3-5 days). It is imperative that you avoid picking any scabs, and allow lips to flake off on their own
  • Avoid irritation from salty or spicy foods for the first week. Use a straw while drinking for the first week (no hot beverages)
  • Avoid kissing until done with the scabbing process (minimum of three days), as to avoid introducing bacteria and friction
  • Avoid makeup on the lips for the first week. The only product you should apply is the Aquaphor Lip Repair (or other non-medicated fragrance-free lip balm)
  • Avoid tanning for the first 4-6 weeks. Avoid chemical peels on this area indefinitely. Avoid retinols/retinoids on or one inch around this area indefinitely
  • Avoid getting lip fillers 1 month before or 1 month after getting lip blush

Important Notes

  • It may take around 6-8 weeks to see the final results
  • The aftercare instructions are goaled toward minimizing risk of infection and aiding in pigment retention. It is ultimately up to you to follow these instructions in order to heal your fresh PMU properly
  • Please contact the studio if you have any questions or concerns
